Wise Woman OB/GYN
Our OBGYN office is located at 172 Clinton Street in Watertown. The building is red brick, with Victorian styling and a cupola occupied primarily by squirrels. It was built in the 1880’s. As you might imagine, the building and its carriage house have been modified many times since then, but much of the original wide oak trim, and the stairs with their curving banister seem to have survived untouched. We have tried to maintain the original architectural details while adding in the equipment needed for medical care, and modernizing the plumbing.
Although we didn’t know it when we decided to make this building our home, Dr. John Adler also operated a medical office here. Based on reports, he was a general practitioner who lived upstairs with his family and saw patients downstairs in the front. We discovered his internship diploma(from 1938) in the upstairs closet shortly before we opened.
During the winter especially, we ask that you use the rear entryway. The carport, while not pretty, allows us a better chance to fight back the snow and ice. We don’t want anyone to slip and fall.
Reception is at the desk in the center office. If the area is crowded, please be patient and allow others room for privacy. We will do our best to get you in to see the gynecologist quickly.
From route 11 or outer Washington Street traveling toward the square, Clinton street is the left turn after the Best Western Carriage House Hotel. The street is called Clinton on the western side and Sterling Street on the eastern side. It can also be accessed from Sherman Street.
